The main aim of the program INTERREG IIIC is to improve the effectiveness of regional development policies and instruments through large-scale information exchange and sharing of experience in a structured way. Basing on this principle six partners from Belgium, France, Italy, Lithuania, and Poland established project COTOUR - "Co-operation to Upgrade Tourism and Regional Products" which is co- financed by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and national project partners.

The main objectives of the operation were defined as follows:

  • creating a strategy for upgrading tourism as a tool for regional development
  • focusing on three areas of development:
    • culture and habitat
    • nature and landscape
    • tradition through regional products

The expected results of the operation are:

  • transfer of expertise, know-how and distribution of the best learning practices
  • development and improvement of policies for regional development
  • creation of new tourism activities in the particular regions
